Storm Update & Rotary Service Opportunities
Point Clear Rotary Disaster Response Team
Our Point Clear Rotary Disaster Response Team will deploy to Peterman, Alabama, on Friday, October 16, to prepare and distribute 200 hamburger meals for residents of Peterman and surrounding communities. According to the team’s update, the area has been without power since the hurricane, with restoration not expected until next week.
The team will set up at Ramah Baptist Church, with meal service beginning at noon. Volunteers will depart from the parking lot of Tammy’s Sports Bar and Grill between 7:00 and 7:15 a.m., arriving in Peterman around 9:30 a.m. The team plans to break down the station by 3:30 p.m. and return to Fairhope.
Team members: Please respond to John Matus to confirm whether you can participate. Thank you to everyone helping provide a warm meal and encouragement to our neighbors as they recover.
Help from Home Through Crisis Cleanup
Rotary District 6880 is partnering with Crisis Cleanup to connect Hurricane Isaias survivors in Southwest Florida and Alabama with cleanup and recovery assistance.
Volunteers are needed to answer incoming calls, listen compassionately to survivors, and document their needs through the Crisis Cleanup system. No prior experience is necessary—training will be provided.
To participate, you’ll need:
- A laptop or desktop computer
- A cell phone
- A willingness to support people recovering from a disaster
For Rotarians unable to travel to affected areas, this is a meaningful way to put Service Above Self into action and help families take their next steps toward recovery.
Interested in volunteering? Reply to this email or contact Jennifer Myrick at missions@fairhopeumc.org. You may also contact atubertini@yahoo.com for more information.
Thank you for helping extend Rotary’s care and support to communities in need.
Tomorrow’s Speaker: Dr. Paul LeBlanc, MD — Shepherd’s Place
The Point Clear Rotary Club welcomes Dr. Paul LeBlanc, MD, this week for a presentation on Shepherd’s Place, an adult day respite program located at Fairhope United Methodist Church.
Shepherd’s Place supports caregivers of adults living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, or traumatic brain injury by providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for their loved ones. Participants enjoy opportunities for fellowship, music, art, games, and exercise, while caregivers have time to rest, attend appointments, or manage everyday responsibilities.
Join us to learn more about this valuable community resource and the role respite programs play in supporting individuals and the families who care for them.
