Developing strong, ethical leaders has long been central to Rotary’s mission, and the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) stands as one of Rotary’s most impactful investments in the next generation. Rotary District 6880 is proud to promote RYLA as a flagship youth leadership development program that reflects Rotary’s commitment to service, integrity, and personal growth.
RYLA is a competitive, immersive leadership experience designed for high school students who demonstrate leadership potential and a genuine interest in making a positive impact in their schools and communities. The program goes beyond traditional classroom learning by engaging students in experiential leadership development. Participants take part in hands-on workshops, team-based challenges, and guided discussions that emphasize communication, collaboration, ethical decision-making, and problem-solving. Throughout the week, students are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, build confidence, and better understand their own leadership styles.
A defining strength of RYLA is its focus on values-based leadership. Students are challenged to think critically about responsibility, accountability, and service, while learning how effective leadership can positively influence organizations and communities. Through peer interaction and mentorship, participants develop meaningful relationships that often extend well beyond the program itself.
2026 RYLA Session Details
Dates: July 19–23, 2026
Location: University of South Alabama, Mobile, Alabama
The RYLA experience is transformational for many students. Participants leave the program equipped with practical leadership tools, strengthened communication skills, and a deeper appreciation for teamwork and service. Many alumni go on to assume leadership roles in student organizations, athletics, service initiatives, and future professional settings, carrying Rotary values with them as they grow.
By supporting RYLA, Rotary clubs directly invest in the development of ethical, service-minded leaders while strengthening Rotary’s long-term impact within local communities. Clubs are encouraged to identify and nominate outstanding students who would benefit from this opportunity and to remain actively engaged in Rotary’s youth leadership initiatives.
