Tomorrow’s Speaker: Dr. Katelin Holmes
Hosted by, Lee Ann Cain
Dr. Holmes is a board-certified, fellowship-trained breast surgeon with Infirmary Health, specializing in both malignant and benign breast conditions. She takes a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to care and is an active participant in Infirmary Cancer Care’s weekly tumor board, working alongside a team of specialists to ensure each patient receives comprehensive, personalized treatment.
Her academic and clinical training reflect a strong commitment to excellence. Dr. Holmes earned her medical degree with honors from the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her surgical training in Texas, including a General Surgery residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, where she gained advanced experience through specialized rotations at leading institutions such as MD Anderson Cancer Center. She further refined her expertise through a nationally accredited Breast Surgical Oncology fellowship at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center.
Now practicing locally in Fairhope and Daphne, Dr. Holmes provides a full spectrum of breast surgery services at Thomas Hospital. Her work includes advanced procedures such as breast-conserving surgery, nipple-sparing mastectomy, and oncoplastic reconstruction in collaboration with plastic surgeons. Notably, in 2025, she became the first surgeon in the United States to perform an FDA-approved laparoscopic nipple-sparing mastectomy—demonstrating her commitment to innovation and improved patient outcomes.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Holmes is actively engaged in advancing the field of breast surgery. She serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Surgery at UAB Hospital and contributes to national committees through leading professional organizations. Her recognitions include Fellowship in both the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, as well as multiple honors for patient care, leadership, and academic achievement.
Dr. Holmes’ dedication extends beyond treatment to education, prevention, and long-term survivorship. Her clinical interests include breast cancer treatment using advanced surgical techniques, high-risk screening, genetic predisposition, and comprehensive survivorship care—reflecting a holistic approach that aligns closely with Rotary’s commitment to improving lives within our community.
