The Art of Saltmaking: Guest Speaker Trey King
At this week’s Point Clear Rotary Club meeting, members will hear from Trey King, a local artisan and entrepreneur whose passion for coastal heritage has inspired one of the Gulf Coast’s most distinctive products—handcrafted sea salt.
As featured in Mobile Bay Magazine, Trey’s company, Gulf Coast Saltworks, transforms water from the Mobile Bay into a gourmet, small-batch product celebrated by chefs and home cooks alike. Through his commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship, Trey is preserving a timeless coastal tradition while showcasing the rich natural resources of our region.
His journey is one of innovation, patience, and purpose—a reminder that even the simplest elements of our environment can yield extraordinary results when approached with artistry and care.
We look forward to hearing Trey share his story, his process, and how he turned a passion for the Gulf into a thriving local business.
🍲 Point Clear Rotary Joins Kiwanis Gumbo Cook-Off!

Rotary Serves Up Fun at the Kiwanis Gumbo Cook-Off!
A big thank you to our Point Clear Rotary team for representing the club at the Kiwanis Gumbo Cook-Off this past weekend!
While we proudly maintained our non-winning streak, the event was filled with laughter, teamwork, and plenty of gumbo-fueled fellowship. The day showcased what Rotary is all about—community engagement, good humor, and service with a smile.
Our volunteers brought the heat (in more ways than one), and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make it a success. Here’s to keeping the streak alive… and maybe adding a little extra seasoning next year!
🌍 Newsletter Fun Fact
Rotary Milestone: Opening the Door for Women in Service
In 1989, Rotary International made history by officially welcoming women as members, following a landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that forever changed the organization’s future.
The case originated from the Rotary Club of Duarte, California, which had admitted women in 1977 in defiance of Rotary’s then all-male policy. After years of legal battles, the Supreme Court ruled that Rotary clubs could not exclude women, recognizing them as vital contributors to the mission of service and leadership.
This decision marked a turning point for Rotary worldwide, ushering in a new era of inclusion, diversity, and innovation. Today, women hold leadership roles at every level of Rotary—including club presidents, district governors, and even the international presidency—helping shape the organization’s global impact.
Rotary’s commitment to “Service Above Self” has only grown stronger through the talents, perspectives, and dedication of women who continue to enrich the organization’s legacy of service and fellowship.
Of all things, I liked books best.
