🎤 Tomorrow’s Speaker:

Dave Friedel

Hosted by, Howard Hadley

Flying High

We’re excited to welcome Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Dave Friedel, the new manager of the H.L. “Sonny” Callahan Airport in Fairhope.

Friedel brings a wealth of experience to our community after serving 27 years in the United States Air Force. A graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (B.S. and M.S.), he most recently Commander of the 72nd Operations Support Squadron at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma.

His leadership and expertise were recently recognized statewide when he was named Alabama Airport Professional of the Year.

Join us this week to hear from Dave as he shares his story, his career in aviation, and his vision for the future of Fairhope’s airport.

🇺🇸 September 11th Remembrance

Tomorrow we pause to reflect on the events of September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed our nation. We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, and we honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders, service members, and ordinary citizens who stepped forward in extraordinary ways.

Although more than two decades have passed, the memories remain vivid. The images of resilience, unity, and compassion in the aftermath of tragedy still remind us of what can be accomplished when people come together. Communities across the country and around the world showed us that even in our darkest moments, hope and humanity can shine through.

As Rotarians, we are called to carry forward those lessons. Our commitment to service, to peace, and to one another is a living tribute to those we lost. By serving our communities and working toward a better tomorrow, we honor their legacy and ensure that the spirit of September 12 — the spirit of unity and compassion — lives on.

May we always remember, may we never forget, and may we continue to honor their legacy through service above self.

🍷 Taste of Rotary: October 26 at The Wash House

The countdown is on for our biggest (and tastiest) fundraiser of the year! To make it a success, we need your help with two key things:

🎯 Goal #1: Sponsors

  • Fund scholarships, youth programs & service projects
  • Great exposure for businesses (and good karma, too!)
  • Know someone who might be interested? Send them our way!

🎟️ Goal #2: Raffle Tickets

  • Available now — easy to buy, easier to sell
  • Proceeds go straight into the work we do year-round
  • Grab a stack, share with friends, and help spread the word

✨ The more sponsors and raffle tickets we secure, the bigger the impact we can make. Let’s fill that sponsor board and keep the momentum rolling!

Stay tuned for volunteer opportunities, and more details soon.

🔍 Rotary Fun Fact of the Week:

Rotary was founded on February 23, 1905 in Chicago by Paul Harris and three friends.

Rotary was founded on February 23, 1905, in Chicago, Illinois, when attorney Paul Harris gathered three friends — Gustavus Loehr, a mining engineer, Silvester Schiele, a coal dealer, and Hiram Shorey, a tailor — for a meeting to exchange ideas and foster fellowship. What began as a small gathering of professionals looking to recreate the close-knit community feeling Harris had missed after moving to a big city soon grew into a movement. This first meeting laid the foundation for what would become Rotary International, a global organization of over 46,000 clubs and 1.4 million members committed to service, leadership, and peace.

🎬 AV Help Needed – Don’t Make September Another Ghost Town!

July AND August came and went… and guess what? Not a single soul signed up to help with AV. We know you’re out there with opposable thumbs and a basic grasp of “put plug here.”

All we need is someone to help put away equipment after Thursday meetings. It’s a one-month gig, not a lifelong vow—and yes, it’s way easier than deciphering IKEA instructions.

Be the hero we know you are. Sign-up sheet’s at the desk (it’s even on paper not the iPad!).

It’s awfully important to win with humilty.  It’s also important to lose with dignity.
