This week, we had the pleasure of hearing from Lee Robinson, President at Overseas Hardwoods Company (OHC), whose presentation offered a fascinating look into the world of global hardwood supply and sustainable wood sourcing.
Lee joined OHC in 1986 after serving in the U.S. Army during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. His formal entry into the industry began with completing the National Hardwood Lumber Association’s Hardwood Inspection Course—an intensive and highly respected program that laid the groundwork for a successful career spanning procurement, operations, sales, and executive leadership.
Founded in 1967, OHC specializes in importing, manufacturing, and distributing high-performance tropical hardwoods used in luxury residential construction, commercial projects, transportation infrastructure, and marine applications. The company serves industries that require durable, beautiful, and sustainable wood solutions—such as trailer decking, architectural millwork, boardwalks, and yacht decking. Headquartered in Mobile, OHC operates additional facilities across the United States, offering vertically integrated solutions that combine sourcing, milling, manufacturing, and delivery.
Lee spoke about the company’s commitment to ethical sourcing, long-term supplier relationships, and environmental stewardship—core values that guide their global operations. He also shared personal reflections on his career path, the evolving nature of the lumber trade, and the unique legacy of family business in a globalized economy.
When he’s not overseeing hardwood procurement or global logistics, Lee enjoys traveling with his wife, spending time with their three daughters, and relaxing at the family’s summer home in Point Clear.
We thank Lee for offering his time and expertise, and for helping us gain a deeper understanding of an industry that quite literally shapes the world around us.
