Alabama State Superintendent of Education
Hosted by Craig Helms

🏫 School’s in Session (For Us This Time)

If you’ve got opinions about public education (and let’s be honest—who doesn’t?), don’t miss this meeting. Dr. Eric Mackey will join us to discuss what’s happening in Alabama classrooms and where we’re headed next.

He’s leading big initiatives like literacy reform, STEM expansion, and workforce development, all while keeping teachers sane and students learning. It’s bound to be smart, timely.

Bring a guest, bring a question, or just bring your curiosity. Dr. Mackey will be ready.

🇺🇸 Honoring Juneteenth National Independence Day – June 19

As we gather this month in celebration and service, we also take a moment to recognize Juneteenth National Independence Day on Wednesday, June 19.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and ensure the freedom of enslaved people—more than two years after it was originally issued. It is considered the longest-running African American holiday, and in 2021, it was officially designated a federal holiday.

It serves as a powerful reminder of our nation’s ongoing journey toward liberty, justice, and equality for all.

As Rotarians committed to truth, inclusion, and service above self, we honor the significance of this day and the progress it represents.

🍷 Taste of Rotary: Mark Your Calendar & Roll Up Your Sleeves

Planning has officially begun for this year’s Taste of Rotary, happening Sunday, October 26 at The Wash House—and we’re already cooking up something special.

As our biggest fundraiser of the year, this event fuels the scholarships, service projects, and youth programs that define who we are as a club. And like any great Rotary effort, it takes all of us to make it a success.

There will be plenty of ways to get involved—whether you want to help with logistics, donate an auction item, or lend a hand behind the scenes. But right now, we invite you to start thinking about potential sponsors—local businesses, community partners, or contacts who would be proud to support an event that gives back in such a meaningful way.

Everyone has something to contribute—and every bit counts. Let’s make this year’s Taste of Rotary our most impactful (and delicious) yet.
