Surprise Speaker Swap—And What a Treat It Was! Meet Dr. Tonya Butler

Sometimes the best moments aren’t planned—and last week’s Rotary Club meeting was proof of that. Due to a last-minute change in schedule, we had the distinct pleasure of hearing from Dr. Tonya Butler, Ed.D, LMT, NSCA-CPT, who stepped in as our surprise speaker. And let’s just say… she didn’t just fill in—she blew us away.

Dr. Butler’s story reads like a highlight reel of service, strength, and purpose. A proud U.S. Army Veteran, she served six years on active duty as a Sergeant and member of the U.S. Army Band (yes, she played the flute and piccolo!). Her military journey also included time as a Master Fitness Trainer and two additional years in the Reserves.

After her Honorable Discharge, Dr. Butler didn’t slow down—she simply redirected her mission. Blending her love of fitness with her deep respect for fellow Veterans, she entered the wellness world with determination and heart. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Georgia, followed by advanced certification in medical massage therapy and a doctorate from the United States Sports Academy, where she focused her dissertation on the power of adaptive sports for wounded female Veterans.

Over the years, her resume has grown to include roles as a personal trainer, cardiac rehab specialist, wilderness medical support therapist, university professor, and even team therapist for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. In short—if it involves healing, helping, or high performance, chances are Dr. Butler has done it.

Today, she’s the Owner and Community Support Specialist of Dynamic Therapeutics and Sports Performance in Daphne, where her focus is helping wounded warriors regain independence and quality of life. Through adaptive sports, expressive arts therapy, and medical massage techniques like trigger point release and biomechanical retraining, Dr. Butler is transforming lives—one muscle fiber and mindset at a time.

She spoke passionately about her work with Veterans facing traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, and how her team supports them physically, emotionally, and spiritually as they navigate recovery. Her energy was infectious, her knowledge vast, and her mission crystal clear: to serve those who have served, and to help them thrive—not just survive.

We’re so grateful to Dr. Butler for joining us on short notice and sharing her extraordinary story. She reminded us that leadership takes many forms, and sometimes the most powerful impact comes from walking beside someone through their recovery, cheering them on every step of the way.

Thank you, Dr. Butler, for your service, your insight, and your unwavering commitment to healing. We’re better for having heard from you.
