Rotarian Mary Shannon Hope hosted Doug Terreson, former Head of Global Energy Research at Morgan Stanley and Evercore ISI, at this week’s meeting. Over a three-decade Wall Street career, Doug became one of the most influential voices in energy finance, advising investors and corporate leaders around the world. He is widely regarded as one of the most renowned oil analysts in Wall Street history.
Before his leadership in equity research, Doug managed one of the world’s largest energy mutual funds at Putnam Investments in Boston. He began his career as a petroleum engineer with Schlumberger Limited along the U.S. Gulf Coast—an experience that gave him a unique technical grounding for his later success in capital markets.
Doug earned a BS in Petroleum Engineering from Mississippi State University, an MBA from Rollins College, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He currently serves on the boards of Phillips 66, the Third Gear Energy Fund, and Mississippi State University.
Doug is the author of Can’t Deny It, a new memoir that blends industry insight with personal stories from offshore rigs to billion-dollar investment calls. The book revisits some of his most influential work—from the rise of the Super-Majors to his contrarian stance during the 2008 crisis and The Pledge, a call that continues to shape corporate behavior today.
