Sam W. Irby
Former President of the Alabama State Bar
Hosted by, Herb Kaiser
We were honored to welcome Sam W. Irby, former president of the Alabama State Bar, as our guest speaker at this week’s Rotary Club meeting. His visit was both inspiring and enlightening, and we are grateful for the time he took to share his insights and experiences with us.
A lifelong resident of Baldwin County, Mr. Irby has spent over five decades practicing law in Fairhope, where he co-founded Irby & Heard, P.C. His distinguished career includes serving as the 143rd president of the Alabama State Bar, a role he called “the most significant professional experience of my life.” He has also been a two-term Bar Commissioner, recipient of the Alabama State Bar President’s Award, and a fellow of both the Alabama Law Foundation and the American College of Real Estate Lawyers.
In addition to his legal accomplishments, Mr. Irby is deeply rooted in service to his community. He has served as past chair of the Board of Directors for Thomas Hospital, a charter member and past president of the Eastern Shore Sertoma Club, and past president of the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce. His commitment to both the legal field and to civic leadership was evident in his thoughtful remarks during our meeting.
Mr. Irby spoke with warmth, wisdom, and humility, sharing stories from his time in the legal profession, reflections on leadership, and a strong message about the value of service—principles that resonate deeply with the mission of Rotary.
On behalf of our entire club, thank you, Mr. Irby, for joining us and for your lifelong dedication to justice, integrity, and community. We hope to welcome you back again in the future.
