At today’s Point Clear Rotary Club meeting, we had the privilege of hearing from Dr. Joel Erdmann, Director of Athletics at the University of South Alabama. Entering his 12th year in the role, Dr. Erdmann has overseen one of the most successful eras in Jaguar Athletics history, embodying the department’s core values: “Graduation, Citizenship, Championships.”

During his presentation, Dr. Erdmann shared the guiding principles behind his leadership and the transformative growth of South Alabama’s athletic programs. Under his direction, Jaguar Athletics has achieved record-breaking academic and athletic success, launched an NCAA Division I FBS football program, and seen major facility enhancements, including the construction of Hancock Whitney Stadium. His impact extends beyond the university, serving in key leadership roles within the Sun Belt Conference, NCAA, and the broader sports community.

Dr. Erdmann also highlighted the importance of building a strong team—both on and off the field—and how cultivating a championship mindset extends beyond athletics into all areas of leadership. His experience in sports management, facility development, and student-athlete success provided valuable insights for Rotarians in all fields of work and service.

We thank Dr. Erdmann for taking the time to share his journey and expertise with us today. His dedication to excellence and community impact is truly inspiring!
